Daniel Schlegel

Daniel Schlegel (* after May 23 jul. / June 2, 1591 greg. In Szczecin ; † 17th July 1653 ) was a German businessman, chamber and Ökonomierat in the Swedish government in Pomerania .

Life

Daniel Schlegel was born at Pentecost 1591. He was the son of Nikolaus Schlegel, a citizen of Szczecin, and Ephrosyne Jordan, daughter of the rent master Baltzar Jordan. He was a merchant and citizen in Stettin and from 1626 a factor for the Elector of Brandenburg . In 1631 he entered the Swedish service and became steward for the Swedish armies in Germany. In the same year he became a Swedish factor. From 1641 to 1648 he was councilor in Stettin.

On January 4, 1643 he received 102 skeppund blind copper coins, 120.5 skeppund rod irons and 12 loads of herring for his services to the crown . On October 3 of the same year he received the Gut Köstin as a ten-year fief and one day later he was raised to the nobility. In 1647 he was appointed Chamber and Economics Council of the Swedish Pomeranian Government.

For a loan of more than 100,000 riksdalers to the Swedish crown, he received full ownership rights to around 212 farms in Halland in 1652 , subject to their being redeemed by the crown.

Daniel Schlegel died in Stettin in 1653 and was buried in the Jakobikirche .
