from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Réunion des musées nationaux et du Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées (RMN) (German: Association of the National Museums and the Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées ) is an institution under public law that unites the most important national museums in France under one roof. The RMN, based in Paris, reports to the French Ministry of Culture and the Service des Musées de France (SMF).

history

The institute was founded in 1885 on the initiative of Raymond Poincaré and Georges Leygues and was intended to make purchases easier for museums and to bring together the most important French collections in order to facilitate exchange between museums. In 1990 the association became an institution under public law. In early 2011, the Grand Palais became part of the RMN and the name was expanded accordingly.

aims

Since its inception, one of the association's primary goals has been to acquire new works for museum collections. In addition, the RMN organizes joint exhibitions in museums and publishes art books and catalogs. The RMN has an important online photo library for the visual arts with around 450,000 images.
