PPML

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Personalized Print Markup Language ( PPML , German Personalized markup language ) is an on XML -based markup language for personalized printing on target group oriented or individual content. A common application is printed matter with a personal address or personalized advertising .

Instead of creating a separate layout for each customer , placeholders are defined in the layout with the help of PPML, which are then filled in the Raster Image Processor (RIP) with appropriate resources such as logos, images or text. In addition, rules can be defined that fill these layout templates with content according to the recipient. Since the content is exchanged during runtime (when printing), personalized printing almost always requires a digital printer, as otherwise a printing plate would have to be produced for each layout. PPML and personalized printing can also be used to create personalized PDF documents that are then sent.

The PPML standard is maintained by the Printing On Demand Initiative (PODi). The initiative includes manufacturers in the printing and prepress industry, for example Adobe , CreoScitex, Hewlett-Packard , Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, IBM , Lexmark , Océ , Pageflex, Quark Inc. , Scitex and Xerox .
