Pabst & Pesch is a Belgian-Spanish publisher founded in 2008 with headquarters in Raeren and Sant Vicenç de Sarrià (a district of Barcelona under local law ).
history
Pabst and Pesch are two Raeren families, whose members now live all over the world. Both have traditionally campaigned for progressive projects as well as for cultural initiatives in their hometown, for example through the Lovius Foundation . During the course of her studies, Claudia Pesch discovered that important books from the German- speaking area were unknown in Catalan - and vice versa. That is why she founded a publishing house in Raeren-Knipp in 2008 to make books that she considered particularly important to a new audience through translations.
Goal setting
The publisher sees itself as a hinge between cultural areas that maintain their independence on the edge of a large linguistic area. A special focus is on the German-speaking East Belgium , the so-called Eastern Cantons, and Switzerland on the one hand, and on the Catalan- language island literature on the other. Above all, authors are translated whose voices tend not to be heard in the commercial literature business.
program
The publishing program offers three book series for adults, each dedicated to the following topics:
- Authors of the Balearic and Pityuses ( Balearica ); works by Blai Bonet and Cristóbal Serra appear first;
- Works that deal with the person as a person and as an individual with roots ( paths ); When the first book appeared , we are not yet human. Plea for a more humane third millennium (2010) by Eudald Carbonell Roura and Robert Sala Ramos; and
- Translations into the Catalan language by “peripheral” German-speaking authors ( Corriols ); a special focus is the work of Gerhard Meier .
The first two of these series appear in German. The graphic design of these three series, designed by Atipus, received an award at the 2009 Anuaria Awards in the category of best book, best yearbook or best publisher's design.
The Pabst & Pesch publishing house also publishes children's books in German ( De Klös series , i.e. “Children” on Raerener Platt). The first titles in this series are translations of the “fairy tales from all over the world” published by the Abbey of Montserrat (monastery) .
