The Packer Stausee is a reservoir in the municipality of Hirschegg-Pack, east of the village of Pack , and in the municipality of Edelschrott, northwest of the village of Modriach , in the Voitsberg district in Styria .
Reservoir
It has a storage volume of 5 million cubic meters of water and an area of 60 hectares. The storage destination of the Pack storage facility is 867.7 m above sea level.
history
The decision to build a heavyweight wall in Packer Bach was taken in 1929. The storage pack with attached power house was built by the Steirische Wasserkraft- und Elektrizitäts-AG ( Energie Steiermark ) after the Arnstein and Teigitschmühle works as the third stage of the Teigitsch works and went into operation in November 1931 after a two-year construction period.
For the construction, a 3.5 km long road was built from Stampf an der Packer Straße to the construction site and a field railway was built, the centerpiece of which was a 270 m long and 27 m high scaffolding bridge over the construction site.
Investigations into the stability of the barrier in the early 1980s showed that extensive renovation of the structure was necessary, which was completed in the summer of 1985. The automation and the conversion of the plant to remote control took place in 1996.
tourism
In addition to generating electricity, the lake is now also used as a recreational water for swimming, fishing and sailing. A cycle path leads around the reservoir.
