Paddy Keenan (born January 30, 1950 in Trim , County Meath ) is an Irish folk musician .

Life

Paddy Keenan, who comes from a Pavee family, has been learning the uilleann pipe since he was 9 years old . His grandfather and father, Johnny Keenan, were already Uilleann Pipers. Keenan made his first appearance at the Gaiety Theater, Dublin, at the age of 14, and made his first guest appearances in England and mainland Europe at 17.

First band experiences

After returning to Dublin , Keenan played in various formations with his father and brothers. In 1975 he joined the band "Seachtar", the Irish word for "seven people". This formation is the origin of the Irish group " The Bothy Band ", to which Paddy Keenan belonged until 1979.

Solo career

In 1975 Keenan made his debut with the album "Doublin '", recorded together with violinist Paddy Glackin. 1983 followed the solo album "Poirt An Phiobaire" (label "Gael Linn Records"). In 1990 “Na Keen Affair” was released, recorded at Dadyeen Studios, St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada. 2001 "The Long Grazing Acre" followed together with the guitarist Tommy O'Sullivan.
