A Paduan (Paduan Crested Chicken) is a breed of chicken .
Breed history
Paduans belong to the group of full-hooded chickens and have been proven to have been in breeding for at least 500 years. In addition to Italy, they were widespread in France, the Netherlands and Germany as early as the 18th century.
Very old breed, bred from the half-hooded European country hen ; Bred in Germany in the main colors since the 18th century.
The oldest pictorial evidence of a crested chicken to date was found on the Artemidor papyrus , dated around 10 AD, from Alexandria in Egypt. Then there are some other rare finds of skull bones with clearly recognizable protuberance and the like. a. from the Serapeion in Mainz, dated around 80 AD, and from West Hill (Roman temple building) in southern England near Uley, around 350 AD [Brothwell 1979]. The skull bone from the Roman city of Trier, approx. 394 AD, [Teegen 2007] is also likely to have been a sacrificial animal.

A medium-sized, lightly built chicken in the shape of a country fowl with a large full bonnet and thick beard, with a cheeky, upright posture and with well-developed, but smoothly fitting plumage; calm and trusting nature, her medium high legs are blue.
