Pairney Bridge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pairney Bridge is a disused , Grade II listed bridge in Perth and Kinross in east Scotland . It crosses the Pairney Burn about two kilometers east of the village of Auchterarder and thereby connected the road to Dunning , which runs north along the stream, with the agricultural areas in the southwest and with the hamlet of Easter Coul.

The single arch stone bridge was probably built at the beginning of the 18th century. In the middle of the century the abutments were enlarged to improve access to the bridge. About a hundred years later, its use was abandoned and it fell into disrepair. Parts of the arch stones fell, the access roads are now overgrown. In 1989 the building was as Listed Building classified in category B, since it is under monument protection .
