Pakhtunkhwa
Pakhtunkhwa , Pakhtoonkhwa , Pashtunkhwa , Pashtoonkhwa or Paschtunchwa ( Pashtun پښتونخواor Persian پختونخوا) is a current name of an old term for the areas of the Pashtuns . Pakhtun is a southeastern variation on the term Pashtuns and Khwa ( Pashtun خوا) means in Pashto direction or cultivated earth , clean soil or clean land etc. The designation (پښتونخوا'Land of the Pashtuns') is based on a poem by Ahmad Shah Durrani . The organ of the Pashtun Social Democratic Party also uses the name 'Pashtoonkhwa' for your internet domain (www.pashtoonkhwa.com).
The poem by Ahmad Khan Durrani, Pashtuns call him Ahmad Shah Baba, reads:
د ډهلي تخت هيرومه چې را ياد کړم
زما د ښکلي پښتونخوا د غرو سرونه
The Pashto transcription reads: De Dehli takht hérauma tshe rá yád kram, zmá de Xkelé Paxtunxwá de ghro srúna.
English: I forget the throne of Delhi when I remember the peaks of the mountains of my beautiful Pashtunkhwa.
On April 1, 2010, the Pakistani "Northwestern Frontier Province" was renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa .
The northwestern frontier province was called Pashtuns in Afghanistan during the lifetime of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Pashtunistan .
Today the Pashtunistan Square is located in Kabul, near the citadel ( called in Pashto Arg , royal palace, today presidential palace).
