Pakt were a German music group founded in 2011 by two former members of And One .
history
Chris Ruiz and Gio van Oli were keyboard players for the German synth-pop band And One until 2011. At the beginning of June 2011, shortly before the start of the joint tour with Unheilig , Chris and Gio announced that they would leave the band due to differences of opinion and announced their new project, Pakt. The newly formed band was signed by the trendy label Ouf of Line at the end of the same month . Just six weeks later, Pakt appeared as the opener at the M'era Luna Festival . This was unusual in that at that time Pakt had not yet published any publications, so the festival organizers had apparently booked the band blindly.
Steve Naghavi from And One then criticized the band and their management in an open letter for adorning themselves with the title “the boys from And One” . The single Freiheit was released at the same time as her first appearance, followed by the debut album Berlin on April 27, 2012 . A first tour started in the run-up to the release, during which the band made guest appearances in 2012 at the Blackfield Festival and Pluswelt Festival as well as in Russia.
In February 2013, Pakt announced that the collaboration with Out of Line was over. After a few shows in Spain in spring 2015, there were no more releases, concerts or statements by the band. The official website was shut down at the end of 2016.
reception
Due to the high-profile separation from And One and the self-promotion with the slogan “We are EBM!” , The first Berlin album was awaited with interest by fans and the trade press. On the other hand, there were rather mediocre reviews, in which the rather weak vocals as well as a strong stylistic reference to And One were criticized.
"No, in any way this is not a PAKT that presents itself here authentically and musically, and so, after all the hype of the past time, 'Berlin' turns out to be an extremely mild breeze."
"Pakt's debut is a little inhomogeneous, but the city of Berlin is exactly the same - which is what ultimately gives it its very special charm."
“With 'Berlin', the two renegades prove that they have by no means been on stage at And One concerts in the last few years and that they are also able to compose their own tracks. Some of them, like the aforementioned 'Burn Home Burn', are also really good, but you have the bland aftertaste of filling material and so, after the initially curious character, 'Berlin' comes out as a big test balloon on which the pact is based on its direction the reactions for Longplayer 2 seem to work out. No quick start, but midfield with potential ... "
