And One is a German synth-pop band that was founded in Berlin in 1988 .
history
And One was founded by Steve Naghavi and Chris Ruiz in the late 1980s . And One first became aware of when she appeared on the DFF youth program Elf 99 . There they performed the song Life Isn't Easy in Germany . And One achieved their breakthrough in the synthpop scene with their debut single Metalhammer in 1990. In the following year, And One was named "Best New Artist". While Steve Naghavi, Joke Jay and Rick Schah formed the band for years, today - after several line-up changes - it consists of this line-up again and is supported by Nico Wieditz. Naghavi is the singer, songwriter and producer for the band. Chriz Ruiz was a member of the band again from 2001 to 2011 after leaving And One in 1992 .
The band reached an artistic high point in 1994 with the album IST. By 2006, four studio albums made the top 40 of the German album charts, one of them at number 15. In March 2011, the album Tanzomat was released , in the run-up to which from September 2010 the sold-out “Tanzomat full-time show -Tour “took place. Initially, And One was under contract with Machinery . After this relationship ended in 1996/1997, the band released four more albums with Virgin ( EMI Group) by 2003 . And One has been with the independent label Out of Line since February 2006 .
In June 2011 Chris Ruiz and Gio van Oli announced their exit from And One and the founding of their new project Pakt by video message . At the following concert, when And One played as a special guest of Unheilig , the two former band members Rick Schah and Joke Jay and Mister X appeared as replacements. In the same month, And One announced the return of Rick Schah and Joke Jay to the band. Nico Wieditz supported the band in concerts in September 2011. In an interview with Sonic Seducer at the beginning of 2012, Naghavi described him as a permanent member of the band. In 2011 the band's Sextron tour through Germany also took place, with the bands DeVision and Camouflage appearing as support groups.
At the beginning of 2012, the band, now bound to the record company SPV , released the EP Back Home . At this point, the album STOP , which was released in May 2012, was in the works. In September 2012, Naghavi announced on the official website of And One that a farewell tour would begin in autumn 2013 and the group would subsequently break up. In August 2013 the tour was renamed And One Forever and finally postponed to spring 2014 after Naghavi's leg was broken in late September 2013.
In February 2014 three new songs were presented, one each for the album trilogy Propeller , Magnet and Achtung 80 . In August 2014 the trilogy was released with ten songs each in four different formats. This was also the first production of Deutschmaschine records, the newly founded Naghavis record company.
criticism
Many of the group's texts are controversial. The controversial song Stones Are Stones contains the statement "German, be proud". Whether or not it contains a call to nationalism or patriotism is judged differently. The song says, among other things, “first comes pride, then comes your country”. The Iranian- born singer of the band commented on this in the official fan forum, but also takes the basic stance of not explaining his lyrics himself. Behind the song stands the "anger at anything that wants to take away the Germans' joy in national pride" and the attitude that everyone should be proud of themselves. The lyrics to the song Destroyer caused controversy , especially because of the line “Winners don't fuck queens ”.
