Machinery (also Machinery Records ) was a music label based in Berlin , in the legendary basement room 'links', in Kurfürstenstraße 23, 10785 Berlin.

history

In 1992, with the establishment of the Machinery label, the Dutch marketing specialist Jorgen Mulder (alias 'Jor Jenka') and the Berlin businessman Karl-Ulrich Walterbach (Modern Music Records GmbH) started the second attempt after their dance floor label 'MadCat' was discontinued to establish a synth-pop label in the Berlin independent scene. The businessman Karl-Ulrich Walterbach held all rights and handed over the label management as well as almost all A&R (“Art and Repertoire”) decisions to the former Fou Gorki singer.

Jor Jenka recorded the songs of the bands published on the label "Machinery" (Kurfürstenstraße 23, Berlin-Schöneberg) (e.g. OOMPH !, Dance Or Die; And One; Syntec) primarily in his own "Machinery Records studio" (Ufnaustraße 8 , Berlin-Moabit). In addition, he developed all video and advertising concepts for the Machinery and Dynamica labels. In addition, he realized the complete artwork (record / CD covers; posters; advertisements; banners, etc.). From 1992 to 1995 Anna Rosen carried out the press and public relations work for all bands as a promoter, such as B. the national / international trade fair presentations, release / tour accompanying promotion and advertising campaigns. In addition, she was fundamentally involved in the implementation of all of the label's own video productions as the responsible production assistant.

In the spring of 1993, Antje Lange joined Modern Music Records GmbH as deputy managing director and from then on took on the execution of all national and international commercial decisions.

The most important mentors and supporters of the Machinery musicians and their publications are the radio presenters Eckie Stieg ('Grenzwellen', FFN) and Anja Caspari (Radio 'Fritz', ORB). The Australian SNOG ( David Thrussel & Julia Bourke), licensed in 1993 and released with their Australian chart hit “Corporate Slave”, are musically outstanding .

After the PopKomm. August '95 - with the signing of the bands OOMPH! (initially label "Machinery" later "Dynamica") and AND ONE ("Machinery") at Virgin Rec. - Karl-Ulrich Walterbach gradually stopped active participation in the music market. The company Modern Music Records GmbH concentrated until 1997 on the sale of the machinery back catalog. Before the end of the 1990s, K.-U. Walterbach sold his entire Berlin independent company (i.e. Modern Music Record GmbH incl. Machinery and 8 other labels) to the British Sanctuary Records group.

Dynamica

In 1993 K.-U. Walterbach with the functioning team 'Jenka, Rosen & Lange' the label DYNAMICA. The slogan 'Metal Hacking Industrialism' was the program and was based on the burgeoning industrial metal and crossover environment. Along with the success of bands such as Rammstein , Nine Inch Nails and Nitzer Ebb, the Dynamica label found national and international recognition relatively quickly with Oomph !, Think about Mutation, Coptic Rain and Cubanate.

After changing the band OOMPH! to Virgin Rec., K.-U. Walterbach then gradually took an active part in the music scene at Dynamica towards the end of 1995. Modern Music Records GmbH continued to concentrate on the sale of the Dynamica back catalog. Before the beginning of 2000, K.-U.Walterbach sold his entire Berlin independent company (i.e. 'Modern Music Records GmbH' including the label Dynamica and others) to the British " Sanctuary Records " group.
