Snog is a band that realizes itself in the genres of Electropop , IDM , Techno , Ambient , Experimental and also in Country and Funk . It was founded in 1988 by the Australian musicians David Thrussel, Tim McGrath and Julia Bourke. According to Thrussel, the band name symbolizes the Marxist concept of tearing down barriers between people.

Career

Her first album Lies Inc. with the dance floor hit “Corporate Slave” was released in 1992 and contains danceable electro pop sounds, paired with socially critical, anti-capitalist texts. In 1995 the second somewhat more technoid album "Dear Valued Customer" was released. At that time, David Thrussel started two side projects: Soma and, together with Pieter Bourke from Dead Can Dance, Black Lung.

Snog is a member of MACOS (musicians against copyright of samples).

In 1997 the most complex album in Snog history to date was released: "Buy me ... I'll change your life". It combines dark electro parts, country and western references and psychedelics into a very independent sound brew. For the first time a cover version (Lee Hazlewood's "Let the Little Flowers Grow") was performed here.

"Third Mall from the sun" (1999) offered a fusion and at the same time further development of the previous two albums: Danceable electro paired with controversial lyrics. This was followed by the remix album "Relax into the abyss".

In 2003 "Beyond the valley of the proles" was released, which is a bit more moderate, song-oriented and more mature with acoustic guitars and delicate ballads. Influences of Thrussels like Tom Waits, Cabaret Voltaire, Ennio Morricone, Nick Cave and Pink Floyd make themselves felt.

With "Adventures in capitalism" the first DVD was released, which contains 13 video clips in the band's history. Current album: "Vs. the faecal juggernaut of mass culture" which appears again on Metropolis Records.

A notable quality of Snog is the concept of the lyrics and the artwork. Almost all of the songs contain topics such as anti-capitalism, anti-fascism, anti-consumption and the loss of identity due to western ideals. Thrussell's poetry also often includes references to conspiracy theories .

The cover art of the albums "Third Mall from the Sun" (1999), "Relax into the Abyss" (2000) and "Beyond the Valley of the Proles" (2003) were made by the Canadian artist Chris Wood and refer to in a sarcastic way Corporations like Nike or McDonald’s .
