The Palais Althan was a garden palace that Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach built on behalf of Count Gundacker von Althan in 1732. It was located at what is now Ungargasse 63-67 in the 3rd district of Vienna and stretched on both sides of Barichgasse . At that time it was one of the most important baroque complexes in the German-speaking area.

In 1726, Karl Anton Count Harrach of the Harrach family acquired the property on which there were vineyards at that time (the Harrach Palace is in the immediate vicinity). In 1729 he already sold it to Count Gundacker von Althan, who then had the palace built.

The middle part of the palace had a partially curved mansard roof and a dome, which was described as the dress rehearsal of the dome of the winter riding school of the Hofburg . The garden extended over the current properties Barichgasse 15–35 and 16–44 as well as Juchgasse 22–42.

In 1745, Count Gundacker von Althan sold the plant to his stepson Ferdinand Philipp Prince Lobkowitz , who also sold it on. After several changes of ownership, the palace became the property of Michael von Barich .

Barich had the palace torn down and divided the property into 34 parcels, on which residential houses were built from 1842 to 1845; The Barichgasse was named after him.

This palace should not be confused with the Palais Althan-Pouthon on Vienna's Alsergrund .
