history
The palace was built between 1897 and 99 by Friedrich Schachner for the industrialist Josef Bratmann. Just a few years later it came into the possession of the Jewish banking family Thorsch, who fled Austria in 1938 and left the artistic furnishings and numerous valuable paintings in the palace. Today the embassy of the People's Republic of China is housed here.

The massive, built in the late historicist style building rests on a rusticated base. A wide balcony with a balustrade extending over 4 axes is supported by 5 volute brackets. The windows of the main floor and the floor above it have a straight Fensterverdachung and ornate lintel fields .
