The Palace under the Tin Roof (Polish : Pałac pod Blachą ) is a late Baroque palace in Warsaw from the 17th century. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Royal Castle on the embankment of the Vistula . The palace is named after the material of its roof, as it was the first building in Warsaw to have a tin roof instead of a shingle roof.

history

The palace was built by the Lubomirski magnate family from 1698 to 1701. In the 18th century he served in the Warsaw Masonic Lodge . During the reign of Stanislaus August Poniatowski , his nephew Józef Antoni Poniatowski lived in the palace. The palace was destroyed by the German Wehrmacht in 1944 after the Warsaw Uprising . The reconstruction was carried out from 1948 to 1949 according to the views of Canaletto .
