The Palatinus GmbH was founded in 1957 Swiss trading company based in Herrliberg . During the GDR era, it sold gifts for citizens of the GDR in a catalog from its headquarters in Zurich . Similar to Jauerfood AG in Denmark, consumer goods could be given to GDR citizens via Palatinus in exchange for western currency . In contrast to Jauerfood AG, however, Palatinus GmbH expanded the product range on offer over the years to include a full range of mail order companies. The transactions were handled by Genex , whose contract company was Palatinus. As early as 1968, most transactions for Genex were processed through the companies Jauerfood and Palatinus. The company was liquidated in 2010.

According to the entry in the commercial register of the Canton of Zurich , the company's liquidation was revoked in January 2016.
