Palazzetto Foscari

Palazzetto Foscari (also Palazzo Foscari del Prà or Palazzo Foscari a Santa Sofia ) is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere , overlooking the Grand Canal, next to the Palazzo Morosini Sagredo , near the Church of Santa Sofia .

history

In 1520 the envoy of the Duke of Mantua and Duke Federico Gonzaga lived in the 14th century palace . Later the small palace fell to the Del Prà family . The German merchant Sigismund Streit lived there in the 18th century (Berlin April 13, 1687 - December 20, 1775). At the end of the 1950s, Bruno Permutti, a merchant from Trieste, bought the palazzo and completely renovated it. The Permutti family lived there until 2001. Until 2001, the Honorary Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany was located in the Palazzetto Foscari . Today the Hotel Foscari Palace is housed there.

description

The facade of the palace does not have a particularly high architectural value, but is important because of its Gothic , asymmetrical multiple windows.

The three-storey building has a portal to the water with a pointed arch on the ground floor, offset from the center to the right . To the right of this is a rectangular window, to the left of which two. The first main floor has a six - fold three-pass window that is shifted from the center to the left and is flanked by a single three-pass window on the right. The two outer windows of the six-fold window and the individual window have wide window sills made of Istrian limestone that rest on consoles . In the symmetrically designed, second main floor there is a double three-pass window in the middle, flanked by two similar single windows. All windows on the second floor have protruding, small balconies made of Istrian limestone. All windows of the facade, as well as the portal to the water, have frames made of Istrian limestone.

The ground floor is separated from the upper floors by a cornice . The eaves are notched. Above it sits a large chimney head on the far right. Over the six-fold three-pass window on the first floor there are partly (2nd, 3rd and 6th windows) bourbon lilies in half relief. On the second floor there is a half-relief between the double window and the right single window.
