Palazzo Arrigoni Caragiani is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere with a view of the Rio della Sensa .

history

The Palazzo Arrigono Caragiani consists of two Gothic palaces from the 15th century. Both palaces were in a poor state of preservation in the early 2000s. The left palace (Palazzo Arrigoni) was restored in 2009. The right one (Palazzo Caragiani) has remained unchanged to this day.

description

Both palaces have U-shaped floor plans and very deep corridors and rooms that meet the facades at an angle of about 70 °. Both facades show a ground floor each with a mezzanine floor above , a main floor and a mezzanine floor under the roof. There are gardens behind both palaces.

Palazzo Arrigoni

The left palace has a gate to the Fondamenta della Sensa , which is shifted from the central axis to the right. It is flanked by three small, square windows on the left and two on the right. The gate's skylight, with a basket arch, extends to the mezzanine, where it is flanked by two pairs of small, rectangular windows. During the restoration, the ground floor and mezzanine were clad in Istrian limestone . The main floor shows a triple keel arched window with a protruding balcony , flanked by two pairs of individual, somewhat smaller windows of the same design. On the mezzanine floor under the roof there are six small, rectangular windows under a serrated eaves . The facade on the main floor and second floor is plastered and painted brown.

Palazzo Caragiani

On the ground floor, which with rustication is covered, is in the middle a portal with round arch whose skylight extends down to the mezzanine floor. There it is framed by two pairs of rectangular windows. The decorations on this mezzanine are the work of Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo . In the middle of the main floor there is a larger triple arched keel window with a balcony, flanked by two pairs of single arched keel windows of the same size. The mezzanine under the roof also has a triple window in the middle, but these are rectangular. It is framed by two pairs of similar single windows.
