Palazzo Barzizza

Palazzo Barzizza is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the San Polo sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal next to the Palazzo Giustinian Businello and opposite the Ca 'Farsetti .

history

The palace was created as a warehouse in the 13th century and belonged to the Contarini family . The building was then rebuilt and modernized in the 16th century.

"Palazzo Barzizza" was in the 18th century, the name of the property, as the Bergamasco noble family Barzizza bought it and had it rebuilt the left part of the original palace.

Today the old home is again in private hands.

description

The facade, which has often been restored and rebuilt over the centuries, is asymmetrical and rich in contradicting elements, which is due to the styles of different epochs.

Above all, the window arrangement was determined by the renovations in the 18th century: The first opening of the elegant five-fold window on the second main floor was partially covered and walled up; it corresponds to a smaller five-fold window on the first floor.

The left block of the facade has one-piece arched windows that emphasize the various levels, while the older, right-hand part is distinguished by the presence of a one-piece Gothic window with balusters .

Of particular value is the old, sculptured portal, which was also impaired on the right side by the subsequent addition of a terrace protruding towards the canal.
