The Palazzo Castelmur is in the hamlet of Coltura near the village of Stampa in Bergell in the canton of Graubünden . It is considered a unique monument to the Graubünden return migration culture.

history

The core of today's palazzo is a patrician house from 1723 owned by the Redolfi family. From 1850 to 1854, Baron Giovanni von Castelmur (1800–1871) and his wife Annetta (1813–1892) expanded the manor house by adding the actual palazzo with side towers, machicolation and battlements to the south side of the house based on the Venetian-Moorish model. The builder was the Milanese engineer and architect Giovanni Crassi-Marliani, who also redesigned the Nossa Donna Castelmur .

In 1962 the palazzo was bought by a Bergell foundation and made accessible to the public.

Inside, you can only tell from the different floor coverings where the southern part was attached. On the western outer facade, however, you can see from the larger windows that the part to the right of the water drainage pipe has been added. On the ground floor and first floor, rooms with their original furnishings by Milanese artists can be viewed. With the exception of one room, the rooms are furnished with painted paneling made of pine wood and partially painted wallpaper. In the new part are the dining room, salon, the red and green bedrooms and the four small tower rooms. The walls and ceilings of the larger rooms are decorated with striking murals. The trompe l'œil paintings were done in 1853 by Gaspare Tirinanzi, other paintings by Zaviero Tessera.

In the arched corridor on the first floor there are numerous paintings by members of the von Salis- Marschlins family . A glass door with the image of a knight and lady by an unknown master from 1860 forms the southern end. African spears and shields hang in the corridor on the first floor. A permanent exhibition on the history of the Graubünden confectioners is housed on the top floor.
