The Reformed Church of Sta. Maria Nossa Donna stands on the grounds of Castelmur Castle above the village of Promontogno in the municipality of Bondo in Bergell in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .

history

In the 10th century it was decided that the streams that flowed into the Mera at Castasegna should form the border between the dioceses of Chur and Como . The area between the Septimerpass and Castelmur formed a parish of the Diocese of Chur, the center of which was the church of Nossa Donna at the dam. The last archpriest appointed for the diocese by the Bishop of Chur was Alberto den Andriani (1536)

The church is first mentioned in 988. It was the destination of pilgrimages from Plurs and Chiavenna . In the second half of the 15th century it was expanded and equipped with a bell, which is said to have been heard from the Septimerpass to the end of the valley.

After the Reformation , the church lost its importance. It became the property of the community and began to crumble. In 1838 the brothers Bortolo and Giovanni von Castelmur bought the hill of Castelmur with the intention of repairing the tower and church. Nossa Donna was rebuilt according to plans by the Milanese architect Giovanni Crassi Marliani and designed as a reformed church. It was consecrated in 1863. In 1871 the hill of Castelmur with the church and ruins came to the Bergell district , as Giovanni de Castelmur had determined in his will. In 1879 the summer house "Villino" was built next to the church. Giovanni's widow Anna continued the work. Giovanni and Anna von Castelmur were buried in the church.

church

The hall church with semicircular apse was built on the plan of the old previous church. The bell tower dates from around 1100, the font in the apse from the 11th century. The church is adorned with a painting depicting the Transfiguration of Christ by Melchior Paul von Deschwanden from 1841, the glass paintings are by Giovanni Bertini.
