Palazzo Falier (San Marco)
Palazzo Falier , also Palazzo Falier Canossa , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Sestiere San Marco , overlooking the Grand Canal between the Ca 'del Duca and the Palazzo Giustinian Lolin .
history
The building was commissioned by the Falier family , who owned the palace until it died out in the 20th century. As a result, he was sold, first to the Veronese family Canossa and then in recent years to the current owners. The palace was opened to the public several times for side events of the Biennale .
description
The palace has a somewhat recessed facade which shows a really unusual appearance that goes against the tradition of tripartite division that is typical of many Venetian palaces. It has two characteristic porches that flank the large five-fold window in the middle. For a long time it was thought that these would be later additions to the building during the 19th century restorations, but today we can confirm that they were made as early as the 15th century. The building was raised by one floor in the 19th century by adding a mezzanine floor under the roof
The interior design is of particular value, with its prestigious furnishings including the dining room with its gilded mirrors and stucco work .
