Palazzo Michiel del Brusà

Palazzo Michiel del Brusà is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the Palazzo Michiel dalle Colonne and the Palazzo Smith Mangilli Valmarana .

history

In 1774 the Michiel family's palace was set on fire and ravaged by the carelessness of a domestic worker. Subsequently, it was rebuilt thanks to funding given by the Republic of Venice for earlier family merits. The following inscription can be seen on the facade to commemorate this event:

"QUOS IGNIS CONSUMPSIT PATRIA MEMENTA MOJORUM NEPOTIBUS PATRIOS LARES RESTITUIT SE VIDUS IANUARIJ 1777".

description

The main facade is characterized by a tripartite division and symmetry, as is typical for Venetian palaces. The important elements of the facade are the two portals to the water on the ground floor and the four- fold keel-arched windows with inserted three-pass windows, each flanked by two pairs of similar, but slightly larger, single windows, all decorated with Gothic flower garlands, which can be found on the two main floors. There are seven square and rectangular windows on the mezzanine floor under the roof. At the top, a serrated eaves delimits the plastered and brown-painted facade, over which a small dormer window with a rectangular window is built. All windows on the facade are relatively large; there are numerous protruding balconies on both the quadruple and single windows.

The interiors are decorated with stucco and frescoes , the latter largely created by Jacopo Guarana . There is also an important portal that opens onto the Strada Nova .
