Palazzo Mocenigo alla Giudecca
Palazzo Mocenigo alla Giudecca is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located on the island of Giudecca in the Dorsoduro sestiere overlooking the Canale della Giudecca near the Church of Santa Maria della Presentatione (Chiesa della Zitelle).
history
This palace was the "country house" of the Mocenigo family and was built in the 16th century when the island of Giudecca became a resort and holiday resort. In fact, it seems that the Doge Alvise Mocenigo I spent the summer in this palace.
Between the 17th and 19th centuries, the palace was fundamentally rebuilt, which lost many characteristic elements and gave it its current appearance.
Today numerous small apartments are housed in the thoroughly renovated interior.

The Palazzo Mocenigo is a two-story building with a wide facade. This is clad with studs made of Istrian limestone .
On the first floor there is a series of small, rectangular windows with the entrance gate in the middle; it's small and inconspicuous. Today it has been significantly rebuilt, and in the 18th century it still corresponded to the original, as can be seen on an engraving by Coronelli .
The main floor is through eight individual arched windows characterized, with railings of wrought iron and mascarons on the keystones are provided. This corresponds to oval openings on the mezzanine floor under the roof, which were made in the 19th century.
In the 19th century, a dormer window was placed almost in the middle of the roof , which does not match the lines of the facade towards the canal.
The southern facade is well preserved and faces the palace's private garden. It bears witness to the ancient order of the small palaces that the Venetian nobles built in the 16th century. In fact, Giudecca was an island of gardens and a place to retreat for recreation and edification.
