Palazzo Reburdone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Palazzo Reburdone is an 18th century aristocratic palace in the Sicilian city of Catania .

history

The palazzo is a late work by Giovanni Battista Vaccarini . The aristocratic palace was built for the Guttadauro di Reburdone family and belongs to the Catanesian late baroque .

Entrance hall

The main characteristic of the palazzo is the open, double-flighted staircase at the end of the courtyard. Its construction follows a pattern that Felice Sanfelice often used in Neapolitan aristocratic palaces. However, there is one major difference. While Sanfelice used the flight of stairs in Baroque style as a welcome occasion for a strong emphasis on the diagonals , Vaccarini came up with a composition of two horizontal rows of arcades , where only the rise of the side balustrades of the basement reveals that this is a staircase and not just a two-story loggia .

other rooms

There are two large ballrooms in the palace. One is decorated with vaulted frescos by Sebastiano Lo Monaco , the other is in a classicist style.
