Palazzo Santucci

The Palazzo Santucci , also Palazzo Baronale or earlier Palazzo Trasmondi-Tomasetti , is a palazzo in the Italian commune of Navelli in the province of L'Aquila .

history

The Palazzo Santucci above the Navelli settlement

The core of the current building dates from the 8th – 10th centuries. Century, when, due to the Incastellamento phenomenon, the population settled around a castle that was built on the hill of what is now Navelli. The hilltop castle was surrounded by a curtain wall, which is now fully integrated into the interior of the settlement.

At the behest of the landlord Camillo Caracciolo , the Palazzo Baronale was built on the ruins of the old castle in 1632. This building was the residence of various feudal lords of Navelli who succeeded each other until the end of the 1700s and from which its name "Castello Trasmondi-Tomasetti" (the names of the last feudal families of the village before the abolition of feudalism in 1806) is derived. The building was later named “Palazzo Santucci” after the last owners.

description

The architecture of the palace derives from a combination of its character as a residential building and a defensive structure. The latter function can be recognized by its corner tourellen .

The palace has a large inner courtyard with a fountain in the middle. On the west side a two-flight staircase leads to a loggia . Traces of a moat can be found around the palace.
