Palazzo Soranzo Piovene

Palazzo Soranzo Piovene is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the Palazzo Erizzo alla Maddalena and the Palazzo Emo alla Maddalena , now the seat of the Guardia di Finanza .

history

The style of the building dates from the first decades of the 16th century. The Soranzos later bought the palace and in 1760 it fell to the Piovene family through the marriage of Cecilia Soranzo and Girolamo Piovene . Today, the Commando Interregional per l'Italia Nord Orientale della Guardia di Finanza is housed in the palace , on the main and mezzanine floors. The remaining parts of the palace around the inner courtyard in the middle and behind it serve as a private residence.

description

The construction is traditionally attributed to Sante Lombardo . The main facade is made up of two triple windows arranged one above the other, flanked by two on the left and one single window on the right. This arrangement is quite unusual and in contrast to the structure of most Venetian buildings, which are laid out in a symmetrical three-way division, both horizontally and vertically. There are always six decorations with plaques or framed circles on the facade.

Inside, the atrium and stairs are particularly noteworthy. In the reception room ( Protego ) on the ground floor there is a small theater. The palace is adorned by an inner courtyard with a fountain, behind which another part of the building extends. There is also a garden.
