Palazzo Emo alla Maddalena
Palazzo Emo alla Maddalena is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere , overlooking the Grand Canal, between the Palazzo Molin Querini and the Palazzo Soranzo Piovene .
history
The palace was built in the 17th century. There lived Angelo Emo (1731-1792), Navy admiral from the Family Branch Emo di San Simeon Piccolo . Through the marriage of Alvise Emo , natural child of Francesco Emo and Cassandra, b. Donà , with Eleonora Rodriguez di Diego in 1610, the Emo di San Leonardo branch had acquired the palace. In 1616 the ferry house on the Grand Canal and some smaller houses, including those on the Traghetto della Maddalena , were bought with part of the Diego Rodriguez inheritance . (The palace previously belonged to the Viaro family .) In the mid-18th century, the owners were Francesco and Gerolamo Emo “q.” Alvise , who decided in 1749 to complete the extension of the neighboring Palazzo Molin Querini by agreement.

The palace shows, like the neighboring Palazzo Molin Querini, a two-part facade and therefore a double orientation. This arrangement had the sole purpose of following the winding canal. The facade shows some anachronisms and seems to evoke the 16th century. It extends over four floors, a ground floor, a mezzanine , a main floor and a mezzanine under the roof. The expressiveness of the facade is centered around a group that includes the portal to the water and two Venetian windows one above the other . There are also single windows on the main floor, two to the right and three to the left of the Venetian windows.
