Palazzo Erizzo alla Maddalena

Palazzo Erizzo alla Maddalena , also Palazzo Molin Erizzo , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between Palazzo Marcello del Majno and Palazzo Soranzo Piovene .

history

The previous building was bought by Bernardo Molin q in 1454 . Nicolò , owner of the previous building of today's Palazzo Marcello del Majno, bought from the noble Zulian family according to the “Jus lateranitatis praelationis”, which granted the respective neighbor the right of first refusal over other interested parties. Soon afterwards, the buyer presumably commissioned heightening and redesigning the facade, which dates from the mid-15th century. In 1650 the building fell to the Erizzo family through the marriage of Giacomo Erizzo to Cecilia Molin . It was subjected to numerous renovations that led to the redesign of the ground floor and the mezzanine floor .

description

The quintuple windows ( Paolo Monti , 1969)

The main facade is a decidedly Gothic construction. There are numerous pointed arched windows , among which the five-sided window on the main floor stands out, which is clearly offset to the left. The main floor is decorated with works from the 18th century, the most famous of which are the works of Andrea Celesti ; they show the deeds of Paolo Erizzo , Balivo of Negroponte , who was sawed up alive by the Turks on July 12, 1470 .
