Palazzo Marcello del Majno
Palazzo Marcello del Majno , also Palazzo Marcello alla Maddalena , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the Palazzo Vendramin-Calergi and the Palazzo Molin Erizzo .
history
In the middle of the 15th century, the palace belonged to the Molin della Maddalena family and was then built with only one main floor (and one ground floor and one mezzanine floor ). In 1517 he fell to the Marcello family through the marriage of Marco Antonio Marcello to Caterina Molin di Nadalin . At the end of the 17th century it was rebuilt on the basis of the old building.
The future sea captain Lorenzo Marcello was born in this palace in 1603 and the composer Benedetto Marcello in 1686 . The British writer Frederick Rolfe lived in the Palazzo Marcello del Majno and died there of a heart attack on October 25, 1913.
description
The palace has five arched windows on each of the two main floors, each flanked by two pairs of individual windows of the same type. The palace thus shows the traditional tripartite division of the facade. The fact that there are two portals to the water on the ground floor suggests that two families lived there.
