Palazzo Querini Papozze
Palazzo Querini Papozze is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the Palazzo Correr Contarini Zorzi and the Palazzo Emo .
history
The building was built for the Querini family , who owned it until the 19th century. Today it is divided into individual apartments. Originally the palace was built in Byzantine architecture in the style of a "fondaco" (warehouse) and then rebuilt in the Gothic and Renaissance periods . On October 21, 1815 it was partially destroyed by fire. After this event it was rebuilt in a completely different style.
description
The building is characterized by a white, very wide, but simple, functional facade. It is characterized by a series of simple, rectangular windows and an extensive garden at the rear. The main facade, which has hardly any architectural value, faces the Grand Canal and is delimited by a private fondamenta . It was built after the fire in 1815 and differs from all others with its seriality. It has 43 windows and three doors. Only a fountain in the courtyard and a veranda to the rear are preserved of the old building. The coat of arms of the Querinis on the facade is a modern copy. The large garden behind the palace has a bridge that was built in the 19th century in a style full of Chinese tastes, in line with the fashion of the time.
