Palazzo Correr Contarini Zorzi

Palazzo Correr Contarini Zorzi is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the Palazzo Querini Papozze and the Palazzo Gritti Dandolo . The palace is also called Ca 'dei Cuori because some of the wrought-iron coats of arms on the facade contain hearts.

history

The palace was built in 1678 on the site of an old Gothic palace, of which only the angular pillars are preserved today. Many noble families lived in the new palace: the Corrers had it built, then it fell to the Soranzo, Zorzi and Contarini families .

In this palace lived Antonio Correr , known as one of the few patricians who refused to wear a wig, which was considered a status symbol of the noble class. Giovanni di Sebastiano lived there around 1840 . In the following century, when the palace belonged to the De Mombells , the terrace was added that completes the facade.

The building has recently been restored.

description

The palace, which with its 17th century facade juts out onto the Grand Canal, has two imposing portals to the water, which show heads on the keystones of their round arches and are surrounded by four rectangular windows. However, their position in the middle is not continued in the window structure of the upper floors.

There are two main floors that look the same and are equally important: They stand out through triple arched windows with a small balcony, which are offset to the left and flanked by pairs of individual windows that also extend over part of the side facade. Bands made of Istrian limestone emphasize the symmetrical, harmonious arrangement of the elements, which pay particular attention to the precision of the design. A really remarkable element is certainly the white parapet that delimits the roof terrace and is supported by a serrated eaves.

Inside the building there are classicist frescoes .
