Palazzo Gritti Dandolo
Palazzo Gritti Dandolo is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the Palazzo Memmo Martinengo Mandelli and the Palazzo Correr Contarini Zorzi .
history
The palace is of medieval origin, bears the classic lines of Venetian Gothic and was fundamentally rebuilt in the 17th century. The window layout was radically changed, but the dimensions were retained.
description
The facade of the three-story building has a wide arched portal on the ground floor with direct access to the canal. The two main floors show a symmetrical structure; in the middle there is a five-fold window, which is flanked by a pair of single windows on each side. All windows have stone parapets .
A small palace is attached to the right of the main building. It too has three floors; there are three arched openings on the ground floor, separated from each other by small columns. On the painted facade there are two half-reliefs showing the coats of arms of the Gritti and Dandolo families , the two noble owner families . This outbuilding from the 16th century owes its present form to a renovation in the 19th century.
