Palghar is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra . The city is located on the west coast of India and borders the Arabian Sea . The city is 87 km away from Mumbai .
The city is the administrative seat of the Palghar district of the same name , which was created in 2014 from parts of the Thane district . Palghar has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 25 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census, it had 68,930 inhabitants, of whom 36,523 were men and 32,407 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 81%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 87.90%, well above the national average.
Palghar is on the Western Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway on the major Mumbai-Ahmedabad railway corridor.
