Palisa is an impact crater on the front of the moon on the eastern edge of Mare Cognitum , west of Ptolemaeus crater and east of Davy . The crater is heavily eroded, the planar interior opens to the south of the crater level of Davy Y .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Austrian astronomer Johann Palisa .
