Palladius (bishop)
Palladius († approx. 457/461) was a mission bishop in Ireland . He is venerated as a saint. His feast day is July 6th.
Live and act
Presumably he was first dean of Germanus von Auxerre . He had a wife and a daughter, but around 408, under the influence of Pelagianism , he went to Sicily to lead an ascetic life. Later he went to Rome , where he possibly persuaded Celestine I to send Germanus of Auxerre on a mission to Britain . Palladius himself will have abandoned his Pelagian intentions. Apparently he was sent to Ireland as a missionary bishop in 431, concentrating on the province of Leinster , while Patrick , who was almost simultaneously active, missionaries in Ulster and Connacht .
With the information on Palladius' life it should be taken into account that the sources do not always show whether the corresponding references to a Palladius are actually always the same person.
