Palm courtyard bunker

The Palmenhof bunker in the southwest of Nuremberg's old town was the last bastion of the Germans in the five-day battle for Nuremberg in April 1945 .

The two-storey former cellar of a brewery (former Keppendörfersche brewery, from 1836 to 1876 Zeltner brewery ) became the command post of the Nuremberg air raid protection under Richard Wolf at the beginning of the Second World War . When the 7th US Army reached Nuremberg and Wolf had withdrawn, the Gauleiter of Franconia , Karl Holz , fanatically directed the hopeless defense of the city from this place; this at a time when the US troops were already holding their victory celebration in today's main market . In these fighting, not only wood, but also the city's mayor , Willy Liebel , was shot in the head on April 20, 1945 in the bunker.

Access to Palmenhofbunker located at police headquarters in Nuremberg, which at this point after the First World War in the building of a former Lancer Barracks (previously: German Order Coming Nuremberg ) was set up and where the Gestapo in the era of National Socialism many regime opponents until their Deportation to Dachau concentration camp .
