Paloma Herrera (born December 21, 1975 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine ballet dancer with the rank of "Principal Dancer" at the American Ballet Theater .

Life

Paloma Herrera was born in Buenos Aires, where she began her ballet training with Olga Ferri at the age of seven. Due to her talent she quickly became known in South America and won several competitions. At the age of eleven she continued her education at the ballet school of Minsk (Belarus). After her return to Buenos Aires she danced the "Cupid" in the ballet Don Quixote at the Teatro Colón .

In 1990 Herrera won the Varna Ballet Competition (Bulgaria), where Natalja Romanovna Makarova became aware of her and invited her to continue studying at the English National Ballet school in London . Herrera completed her dance training at the School of American Ballet in New York , where she danced the title role in Raimonda in the annual school performance . In 1991 she was accepted into the company's corps de ballet, two years later she was promoted to soloist and in 1995, just 20 years old, was appointed principal dancer.

Herrera was honored in 2001 by the American Immigration Law Foundation for being a role model for the New York immigrant community. Today she is one of the most famous Argentine ballet dancers and also appears regularly as a guest at other companies. Her repertoire includes both classical ballet and more modern pieces. She has also created a number of roles.
