Resurs-DK 1 is a Russian earth observation satellite with additional international research payloads. The satellite with a mass of 6,800 kg was brought into an elliptical orbit by a Soyuz U launcher on June 15, 2006 and is tracked so that it always points at the same angle to the earth. It orbits the earth at an altitude between 300 km and 600 km with an orbit inclination of 69.9 °.
The construction of the originally designed for a service life of three years satellite is probably based on a military reconnaissance type Yantar-4K . On board are u. a. the Russian devices ESI (Earth Surface Imager) and ARINA (for earthquake prediction ).
Germany, Italy and Sweden contributed to the payloads of Resurs-DK 1. The Pamela experiment ( payload for antimatter matter exploration and light-nuclei astrophysics ) measures the trajectories and energy of cosmic particles within the energy range from 50 MeV to several 100 GeV, from which conclusions can be drawn about the matter / antimatter distribution of the young cosmos and on the essence of dark matter hoped for. Pamela comprises a total of five different measuring instruments, including a magnetic spectrometer and a calorimeter .
The successor is the Resurs-P 1 satellite launched in 2013 .
