Pamela Coke-Hamilton is a Jamaican lawyer and trade expert. Since July 2020 she has been Executive Director of the International Trade Center (ITC) in Geneva .

education

Coke-Hamilton attended Manchester High School in Mandeville, Jamaica. She then completed a degree in Economics and International Relations at the University of the West Indies on the Mona campus (Jamaica) . She received her doctorate in law from Georgetown University in Washington, DC .

Career

Coke-Hamilton began her career in the Jamaican Department of Foreign and Foreign Trade.

From 2007 to 2009, Coke-Hamilton served as the director of commerce, tourism and competition promotion for the Organization of American States (OAS). In 2008 she advised the United States International Trade Commission (USITC, German Commission for International Trade of the United States ) on Caribbean trade.

From 2011 to 2019, Coke-Hamilton was Executive Director of the Caribbean Agency for Foreign Trade Promotion (CEDA). During her tenure, she established best practice programs ("Caribbean exporter of the year") and promoting women in the field of foreign trade.

In 2019, Coke-Hamilton became Director of International Trade and Commodities at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). She warned of the escalating trade war between the US and China with the damage to consumers, the stability of the world economy and future economic growth.

In July 2020, UN Secretary General António Guterres appointed Coke-Hamilton as Executive Director of the International Trade Center (ITC) to succeed Arancha González, who had been appointed Spanish Foreign Minister . When she took office, she named the focus of her work on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries , which are particularly threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic .

Honors

Coke-Hamilton was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of the West Indies in recognition of her contribution to the introduction of Masters courses in International Trade Policy.
