Pana Tinani (formerly Joannett Island ) is an island in the Louisiade Archipelago in Milne Bay Province , Papua New Guinea . The island is located 3.1 km north of the northwestern headland of Vanatinai and is separated from it by the Bulami Passage . It is also located immediately east of Hemenahei , the easternmost of the Calvados Islands , and is separated from it by the Magamaga Passage, which is only 890 meters wide at its narrowest point . It has an area of 78 km² and is the second largest island in the Vanatinai lagoon after Vanatinai, as well as the sixth largest in the entire Louisiade archipelago. It is hilly and reaches a height of 338 meters in Mount Guyuba.
At the 2000 census, the island had 225 inhabitants, all in the village of Bwailahina (formerly Hebwaun) in the southeast of the island.
