The Panamanian pimple starfish ( Pentaceraster cumingi ) is a large starfish that reaches 20 centimeters in diameter . It lives in the eastern Pacific from the Gulf of California to Peru , the Galápagos Islands and west to Hawaii .

features

The Panamanian pimple starfish is heavily armored. There are short, strong, dark spines on the top of the body and arms. Its color is usually whitish or pink, the spines are red. A red net-like drawing connects the spines.

Way of life

Panamanian pimple starfish live on rocky ground from the low water line to a depth of 180 meters. They feed primarily on microorganisms , but algae and detritus may be omnivorous .
