The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 is a digital single lens reflex camera which is constructed according to the Four Thirds standard . It was presented in February 2006 and the market launch in September of the same year.

The Lumix DMC-L1 is technically based on the Olympus E-330 , which was the world's first digital single-lens reflex camera ( DSLR ) on the market that allows the use of interchangeable lenses and offers a continuous live view display on the rear camera display. As a result of the cooperation between Panasonic Corporation and Leica , the DMC-L1 was also offered by Leica as the Leica Digilux 3 , which essentially differs through a different color of the housing and the modified camera software.

In contrast to the Olympus E-330, which can also implement live view in mode A via a secondary sensor in the through-the-lens viewfinder, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 offers live view exclusively with the help of the primary sensor by using the The mirror is folded away to the side (corresponds to mode B for the Olympus E-330). The optical viewfinder is designed as a compact Porro mirror viewfinder .

The image sensor in four-thirds format (17.3 × 13.0 millimeters) delivers around 7.5 million pixels net. The MOS technology used should get by with less energy and simpler internal control electronics compared to CCD sensors, which should ensure an enlarged light-sensitive area per sensor element and thus a more favorable noise behavior.
