Pancalia baldizzonella is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 15 millimeters. The forewings have a brownish yellow base color. This is also the only characteristic with which the species can be externally distinguished from Pancalia schwarzella .

The genital armature of the males does not show any reliable distinguishing features for differentiating from Pancalia schwarzella . The genital armature of the females differs from Pancalia schwarzella by the smaller and more regular square sterigma .

distribution

The species is only known from the type locality. This is located in Italy on Monte Pollino in the Pollino National Park .

biology

The biology of the species is unknown. The moths were collected in July.

Systematics

In pancalia baldizzonella is probably only a form of pancalia black ella . From pancalia TYPES is known that the bright orange color fades with time. This is probably the explanation for the pale coloring of the two type specimens. This assumption is also supported by the late date of collection. Furthermore, no clear differences in the genital fittings can be detected. Koster & Sinev 2010 therefore suggested maintaining the species status until further butterfly material from the type locality is available for studies.
