PangYa is an MMO golf game first offered in 2004 by the Korean developer nTreev . The game relies on diversity in terms of optics and functions with a graphic presentation in anime style. In contrast to other golf games, no value is placed on realism. There were also offshoots for PlayStation Portable ( Pangya: Fantasy Golf ) and Wii ( Pangya! Golf with Style ).

In December 2012, Pangya was playable in the USA , Korea , Japan , Thailand , whereby you could register and play as a European at Pangya-USA. The US game servers were shut down on December 12, 2016.

Gameplay

The points system and game jargon are largely inspired by real golf :

Hole result meaning
Hole-in-one The ball is thrown into the hole with one stroke and is usually rated with −2 points, in exceptional cases with −3 or −4
Albatross three strokes under par (−3)
eagle two strokes under par (−2)
Birdie one stroke under par (−1)
par Expectation horizon of a hole exactly maintained (+0)
Bogey one over par (+1)
Double bogey two over par (+2)
Triple bogey three over par (+3)
+4 four over par (+4)
give up Five over par (+5)

A bar is placed in the lower left area, which indicates impact force. It is important to calibrate the desired impact force using the mouse or keyboard and hit the white PangYa impact zone when walking back along the bar in order to maintain the planned trajectory. Missing this zone results in deviations from the planned stroke, so the "Pangya meeting" is essential in the game. There are 15 golf courses of varying degrees of difficulty. At the beginning there were 12 golf courses; two were added in season 3 and one in season 4. Another golf course is currently only playable in Japan, Thailand and Korea. The personal records of all courses add up to the overall course record, which can usually be viewed in a kind of ranking list.

Game modes

There are different game modes that differ mainly in the number of players competing against each other. Individuals can play against up to four other individuals, or groups can play against other groups. For the respective variants there is also the tournament mode, where up to 30 individual or 2 groups of up to 15 players fight against each other. In approach mode, 4-30 players play against each other, trying to get the ball as close as possible to the hole. The winner will be rewarded with pang (the game currency). In pang mode you play against each other for pang by betting an amount before the fight that you either lose or win the opponent's bet, depending on the end result. This mode is seldom played because mostly only small amounts are used and you don't get any experience points in this mode.

Characters & Items

In addition to the game modes and courses, there are also a number of characters and caddies, each with different characteristics. Characters can be improved later in the game with better clothes and racket sets and certain extras can be added with the card system. Caddies (with the exception of event caddies) must be purchased in the in-game shop. They always accompany the character while playing and support them with various status boosts. In the new season 5, caddy stats can be varied so that every caddy has equal rights. Right now, the 2 most used caddies, Brie and Titan, are a near-essential upgrade for the simple reason that they are the only ones who add +2 to Control Stat. The "Caddy-Upgrade" system is designed to prevent precisely this fact. The player has the option of his character with special character strengths such as magic. The character has the opportunity to collect points with certain items and to increase their fighting strength.

Game currencies

In Pangya a distinction is made between 2 game currencies: Pang and Cookies (in Pangya USA Points). Pangs can be earned in the game, while Cookies is a real money currency. The player can use various payment options to convert his money into cookies. Pangs can be consumed in the shop for characters, items clothes, caddies, bat sets and decorations as well as in 'Taschis Shop', a lottery for game items. Cookies can also be used to purchase racket sets, caddies, characters, special items, but also mascots. You can also send a ticker message to all other players. For every 15 cookies issued, you receive a scratch card, which you can use to send to 'Mr. e-Card ', a lottery for cookie items. This method is extremely controversial as it undermines the lottery law and many gamblers are over-consuming.

Seasons

Pangya's further development can basically be divided into 5 seasons. The initial game, which was released under the name Pangya , offered the basic functions, but not yet the additional features. With 'Pangya: Season 2' the game was expanded with 'Taschi's Lottery' and a new course. In addition, the user interface has been revised. This was followed by 'Pangya Season 3: Revolution'. Two new courses have been added, servers have been merged and scratch cards have been introduced. The guild system also started, but not in Europe. Other innovations were the ability to trade items and the game modes Approach and Pang-Fight. In addition, a new special strike was launched. 'Pangya Season 4: Delight' brought further innovations with it: a new course, treasure chests, a revised approach mode, new items, maps and a mail system that enables game items to be sent. Another course will be added during Season 4.

Season 5, officially 'Pangya Open Tournament' is only available in Korea at the moment. Besides many small improvements, the super chaos mode, a tournament with a mixture of different courses, is the biggest innovation.

Arithmetic

Although the European rules of the game prohibit any kind of calculation, arithmetic is used by a large part of the community. This can give you a decisive advantage depending on the accuracy of the formula. The editors usually only do something about it when the arithmetic overflows into hacking (automated / programmed Excel calculators, angle measurement aids, switching off a ball flight factor, etc.) Up to now there are only a few formulas available that enable really precise hitting. However, these are not published.

Guilds

An interesting function in Pangya is the creation of guilds. A 24 × 24 pixel logo of the guild is displayed in front of the player's name. The function has existed since Season 2, but has not yet been implemented in Europe. Nevertheless, some German guilds have already been founded. An official introduction of the in-game guild system is expected in Europe in June.

Access

It is no longer possible to log into an EU server because the operators have closed this page. Playing at Pangya was only possible through N-Treev (Pangya-USA). The US game server was also shut down on December 12, 2016.
