The pan-iranism is an ideology , a union of Iranian origin or iranischsprechenden nations endorsed in a national state, the Greater Iran (ایران بزرگ Irān-e Bozorg ,ایران‌زمین Irān-zamīn ; the Encyclopædia Iranica uses the term Iranian Cultural Continent German  "Iranian-cultural continent" ).

history

The Iranian political scientist Dr. Mahmud Afschar Yazdi first used the term paniranism in the early 1920s. He developed the idea or ideology of paniranism as a reaction to the growing pan-Arabism and pan- Turkism that Dr. Afshar Yazdi as a potential threat to the unity and territorial integrity of Iran.

After the end of the Qajar dynasty , the former general and defense minister Reza Khan was raised to the rank of Shah ( German  king or emperor ) of Iran. Numerous significant reforms were implemented under Reza Shah Pahlavi. Iran stabilized until the outbreak of the Second World War . After Hitler's attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the Allies planned a supply line, the Persian corridor through Iran, which Iran did not allow due to its declared neutrality. Great Britain and the Soviet Union then invaded the country on August 24, 1941 ( Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran ). On September 16, 1941, the Allies forced Reza Shah Pahlavi to abdicate in favor of his son Mohammad Reza Pahlavi .

With the occupation of Iran, the pan-Iranian movement regained popularity. The hatred against the occupiers increased steadily in the population. Many young people and intellectuals in Iran gathered in political groups, including the Paniranists. The founders of the Pan-Iranist Party of Iran ( German  Paniranist Party of Iran ) were u. a. Mohsen Pezeschkpur , Alinaghi Alikhani , Bijan Forouhar and Dariucsh Homayun . Other well-known Iranians joined this party over the years. B. Dariush Forouhar , who, however, after three years of party membership (1948–1951) separated from the paniranists and founded the National Front (Jebhe Melli) .

The Pan-Iranist Party of Iran is currently politically active both at home and abroad.

Directions of paniranism

There are different directions of paniranism:

  • Persian nationalism, which aims to unite all Persian-speaking and Persian-born people ( see Tajiks ). This movement is mainly based on the language factor.
  • Persian nationalism, which seeks the supremacy of the current state of Iran over other population groups in the immediate vicinity of Iran. This variant of paniranism is based on the national factor of the modern state of Iran, but does not accept its current borders, but instead makes territorial claims against neighboring states.
  • Paniranism in the strict sense of the word strives for the unification of all Iranian peoples, including the Pashtuns , Baluchi , Kurds, etc.

Opposed to Pan- Iranism are Pan-Arabism and Pan- Turkism .
