Panagiotis "Panny" Nikas (born July 27, 1988 in Kogarah ) is an Australian football player with Greek roots.

Career

Nikas played in 2008 for Penrith Nepean United in the NSW Premier League and moved to league rivals Sutherland Sharks for the 2009 season . He won the championship with the Sharks in the same year and was elected to the "2009 Football NSW All Star team" not least because of his 14 goals this season at the end of the season. In the summer of 2009, Nikas switched to the junior team of the Central Coast Mariners and acted as team captain in the National Youth League . With twelve goals this season, he was instrumental in reaching first place in the regular season , but then failed with the team in the semi-finals of the championship play-offs. He was voted the best player of the 2009/10 season by the players in the league.

In early December 2009, the midfielder signed a professional contract with the Mariners for the rest of the season after David D'Apuzzo's contract had been terminated . He made his professional debut in the A-League on December 31, 2009 against Wellington Phoenix . Despite his performance in the youth league, Nikas received no contract offer for the professional team from the new coach Graham Arnold at the end of the season; At the end of the season he was too old for a place in the youth team. After leaving the Mariners, Nikas stayed fit for a few months with the Sutherland Sharks before returning to the A-League and signing a contract with the North Queensland Fury . The club had to put together a largely new squad after financial problems for the 2010/11 season .

Nikas only appeared once in North Queensland's first twelve league games, only after making his starting XI debut in a 3-2 defeat against Melbourne Heart on November 10 and preparing a goal, he was part of the rest of the season Regular team. His only goal of the season he scored in January 2011 in an 8-1 defeat, the highest loss of an A-League team to date, against Adelaide United . The team's performance had already declined in mid-December after serious doubts about the club's continued existence beyond the end of the season arose. On March 1, 2011, the Australian Association finally revoked North Queensland Fury's license and Nikas' contract became null and void.

Nikas then went back to the Sutherland Sharks, the desired return to professional football has not succeeded Nikas since then; a move to the Chinese club Henan Jianye did not materialize.
