As tank fracture is called a fracture of the carapace in turtles . Frequent causes are traumatic effects such as falls, kicks, blows or run over as well as bite injuries by dogs. In the case of armor fractures, internal injuries must always be taken into account - in the case of fractures of the armor (carapace) especially the lungs . An X-ray is therefore usually indispensable to detect small hairline cracks (fissures).

After repositioning of the fractured ends, the fragments are a dental plastic, cerclages or epoxy resin fixed. The chances of healing are usually good, but it can take months to a year for the fracture to heal completely.
