The Panzerjäger I was a self-propelled gun of the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War . The Panzer I Ausf. B was used as the chassis .
history
The 4.7 cm PaK 36 (t) from Czechoslovak stocks was selected as armament , as the German 5 cm PaK 38 , which was also being considered, was not yet ready for use. A total of 202 vehicles were converted from 1940 to early 1941 (chassis no .: 10478–16486), a first series of 132 vehicles by Alkett in Berlin and a second series of 70 vehicles by Alkett (10) and Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz ( 60). Outwardly, these vehicles differed in the five-sided protective shields of the body in the first series and the seven-sided protective shields in the second series, both versions were without armor protection at the rear and at the top. The armor of the protective shields was about 14-15 mm thick.
The 2.25 m high vehicle weighed 6.4 t and had a crew of three. The 4.7 cm Pak (t) was provided with a directional field of 15 ° each and a field of elevation of −8 ° to + 12 °. 86 rounds of ammunition were carried for the anti- tank guns. The height of the fire was 1.72 m, the maximum firing range was 6000 m. At a muzzle velocity of 775 m / s, the tank shell cartridge 36 (t) used here could penetrate up to 40 mm of armor at 1000 m.
At the beginning of the western campaign , four armored personnel carriers (521, 616, 643, 670) with 18 Panzer I units each were deployed.
